Spox: Germany in talks with Brussels on Russia sanctions reaction
BERLIN, Aug 3 (PRIME) -- Germany’s Economy Ministry is in contact with the European Commission to elaborate an adequate reaction to the U.S. sanctions against Russia in case of their influence on Europe, a spokesman told PRIME on Thursday.
“If the U.S. is indeed to introduce exterritorial sanctions, the E.U. will have to consider a commensurate response to them. We are in contact with the European Commission,” the spokesman said.
Late on Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a bill introducing additional sanctions against Russia among several other states.
The bill prohibits companies to invest more than U.S. $1 million in a single payment or more than $5 million during the course of a year in construction of Russian export pipelines, as well as provision of goods, services, technologies and information support for the construction. The U.S. will continue standing against the construction of Russia’s Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline in Europe.
